Concrete patio construction in Port Angeles WA - a slab that stays flat and sound
Bare yard, a sinking old slab or puddles by the back door? We build your patio on a packed, well-drained base so it stays level.

What goes into building a concrete patio in Port Angeles?
Concrete patio construction in Port Angeles means preparing the base, pouring an outdoor slab and curing it properly, because each of those steps decides how well your patio holds up against cracks and a flaking surface.
Maybe it's a muddy spot off the back door, or an old slab that's cracked, dropped on one side and holds a puddle after every rain. Before I say a word about concrete, I want to know what the space is for, a grill and a table or a flat spot for the kids, because that sets the size and where it should sit. The price mostly follows the size, the ground and the finish, and the schedule follows the weather and anything the city needs first, so your estimate gives you your own figure with what's in it and what isn't.
What happens after you call about a patio?
Call or send us a note
Call (564) 203-7120 or use the form, and we'll set a time for me to come see the spot. We're based in Port Angeles and work in Sequim and the cities around it.
I walk the site with you
I come out myself, look at the ground and where the water runs, and ask what you've got planned for the space. The written estimate spells out what's in the price and what isn't, so you can compare it with other bids line by line.
We prep, pour and finish
Once you're ready, we sort out anything the city needs, then dig out and pack the base and pour. I'm on site with our crew the whole way, so the person who wrote your estimate is the one watching the work.
Walk the finished patio together
When the work's done, we walk it with you and go over what you'll see. I'll tell you when it's ready for chairs and a grill, because concrete keeps gaining strength while it cures and rushing it is how surfaces get marked up.
How we build a concrete patio, and the work that goes with it
Most patio cracks start in the ground, so that's where our time goes. We dig out the soft topsoil and pack a firm base, because a subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, that's only raked level will settle with the dirt and take the slab down with it. Before the pour I go over it for soft, wet or frosty spots, and we set the forms so the patio sheds water away from your house instead of toward it. We plan the pour so sun and heat don't dry the top too fast and leave it weak and dusty, then give it a broom finish, a light brushed texture that keeps it from getting slick in the rain. I'll show you where the control joints go, the cut lines that give the slab a planned place to crack, and we talk through how we'll cure it, the wait while it hardens before you use it. If something has to give in the budget, I'd trim the finish before the base, because nobody sees the base on day one and it's what decides whether the patio stays flat.
A plain broom finish isn't your only choice. If you want the look of stone or brick, stamped concrete presses a pattern and color into the slab on the same solid base. Plenty of patios also need a way to get there, so we often pour a concrete sidewalk from the driveway or back door at the same time, which keeps the slopes and drainage working together.
Get a patio estimate that shows what's in it
Send us the patio's rough size, where it sits on your lot and when you'd like it done, and we'll get back to you within one business day. I'll come out for a free on-site estimate, and there's no obligation to book.
Port Angeles patio questions
How much does a concrete patio cost in Port Angeles?
Your price comes from a written estimate after I walk your yard, because I can't give a fair number before I've seen the ground. What I look at is how much soft or sloped ground has to come out, how close the truck can get and whether you want a plain broom finish or a stamped pattern, which costs more. The estimate lists each of those so you can see what you're paying for.
What causes a concrete patio to crack or flake?
Most cracks come from poor base preparation, which can let the slab settle and leave water with nowhere to go. Flaking on top, called scaling, is less likely with dense, good quality concrete that has entrained air, tiny bubbles mixed in, and careful placing and curing. When you compare crews, ask each one how it prepares the base and whether the mix has entrained air.
When is the best time to pour a patio in Port Angeles?
The best time is a stretch when a freeze isn't likely soon after the pour, because trade guidance calls for caution in late fall, winter and early spring if freezing weather could reach concrete that's still saturated. Clallam County's design standards list frost depth, how deep the ground can freeze, at a 12 inch minimum, so the ground itself can freeze here. That's one more reason we check the base for frost and plan the date around the forecast with you.
How do I care for a new concrete patio in its first winter?
Skip deicing salts and chemicals on a new patio for its first winter, then use them in moderate amounts after that, which is what trade guidance advises. One trade group also recommends a breathable sealer or water repellent made for concrete slabs, put on when the slab is reasonably dry, and it names late summer after a few dry days as the ideal time.
Do I need a permit to build a patio in Port Angeles?
Ask the city first, because building permit applications in Port Angeles go to the city, and its staff can tell you which application your patio would need. You can book a meeting with a permit specialist, email permits@cityofpa.us or call 360-417-4817, and anything you file has to meet the state building codes the city has adopted. We look early at whether the work reaches city land, and when a permit's needed we handle the paperwork or help you get your questions to the permit staff.
How can I check a concrete contractor before hiring in Washington?
Look the business up with the state Department of Labor & Industries' online Verify tool, which shows whether it has an active contractor registration and an active, paid-to-date workers' comp account covering its employees. The same tool shows safety violations and lawsuits against a contractor's surety bond. We're licensed and insured, and I'd rather you check than take my word for it.

Stamped concrete services
When you want the patio to look like stone or brick, a pressed pattern and color give that look on one solid slab, with no pavers to shift.
Concrete sidewalk building
If you're crossing wet lawn to reach the patio now, a poured walk from the driveway or back door gives you firm footing all year.
